I've read many times that the PPK design needs to be kept well-lubed and my experience has been that the gun is perfectly reliable until it starts to dry out or get a little dirty. Most of my handguns get rotated for trips to the range, but the PPK/S almost always goes. I enjoy shooting it, although I shoot my revolvers, even snubbies, better. I have put about 1,000 rounds, mostly light handloads, through a PPK/S that I got new last year. Not on that note, Miltiades, beautiful guns, nice pictures. Everyone in the world can think what you have sucks but if you like it, who the hell cares. Give yourself a couple months to make a decision. I've noticed a pattern of criticisms for the US made versions as well but if you like it for historical or whatever reasons, look for a German one and see what you think or continue your search, such as checking out the Colt. I've heard both great and terrible things about S&W's version, so I wanted to find out the generally consensus is here before I decide(perhaps the current batch for sale has fixed problems and quality control better)? I also know about the Bersa, but just not really sure it's going to have all the neat accessories the PPK market has. Both the Sig 232 and Kahr P9 won't be getting laser grips, but the Kahr MK looks like it will in the future. The PPK will not be used to carry, but just for something else to shoot at the range I also really liked the look of the PPK with the newly available Crimson Trace Laser grips you can get with it (which I would very much eventually like to get). Also, I am intrigued about the PPK because it feels good in my hand, yet no range has them for rent to test out. Although both the Kahr Mk and Sig 232 are going for $700 and up and I really didn't want to spend that much when the PPK/S can be had for $499 and under. I really didn't like the Kahr P9 polymer feel, but Kahr the MK9 was much nicer looking (and has detachable grips).

I'm not too keen on the Sig because I shot it before and got pretty bad slide bite (The S&W PPK has an enhanced beaver tail that is suppose to help prevent it). He recommended a Kahr P9 or MK9, or the Sig 232. 380 ACP the other weekend, but the guys at the gun store (and comments I've read on the internet about the S&W version) really kind of steered me away from it based on comments of reliability problems (Jamming, FTF, FTE's etc). I was looking into getting a S&W PPK/S in.
